Visit Ipoh Festival 2024: Japan Summer Festival

A Celebration of Friendship and Culture

The Visit Ipoh Festival is thrilled to announce this year’s theme, the Japan Summer Festival, an annual celebration that honours the long-standing friendship between the twin cities of Ipoh and Fukuoka. This exciting event aligns with the government’s mission for Visit Perak Year 2024, building momentum towards Visit Malaysia Year 2026, and it promises to be a spectacular cultural extravaganza.

Taking place at the Sunway Lost World of Tambun, the Japan Summer Festival offers an immersive experience that beautifully blends Japanese tradition with the vibrant energy of Ipoh. Jointly organised by Persatuan Seni Tarian & Pendidikan Antarabangsa (PSTPA), Kangda and Nijigen Expo, one of Southeast Asia’s largest ACG (Anime, Comics, and Games) organisers, the festival will be a must-visit event for families, culture enthusiasts, and tourists alike.

Guests will enjoy a vibrant Japanese music concert, cosplay events, engaging children’s theatre games, and beautiful yukata and kimono sales and rentals. A balloon show will delight visitors, while the Fukuoka City Hall booth offers insights into cultural exchanges and partnerships. Attendees can also explore traditional Japanese games and toys, adding to the excitement of this unique cultural experience.

A special highlight of the festival will be a guest appearance by renowned artist Bichi Mao, who boasts more than 600k followers on Instagram. She will bring her unique flair to the festival with a display of her famous collection of 100 cat installations spread throughout the theme park, offering a visual feast for art lovers and fans alike.

This family-friendly event is designed to offer an abundance of activities for everyone, from nature lovers to adventure seekers. Visitors can enjoy hot springs and lush landscapes of Sunway Lost World of Tambun, which will make you feel as though you have been transported to Japan. This unique experience promises not only entertainment but also a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture.

The festival’s focus on cultural tourism marks Ipoh’s recent recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Music. By promoting cultural tourism, the Japan Summer Festival aims to open doors to international opportunities, highlighting Ipoh’s dynamic arts and culture scene and enhancing its appeal as a global travel destination. It is an unmissable opportunity for locals and tourists to engage with rich cultural heritage and exciting international content right here in Ipoh.
