IPOH : Three were arrested while four were hunted following a robbery incident on a family in a house in Ayer Tawar, Manjung. They were wearing black clothes, helmets and face masks.
At the time of the incident, the family, along with two friends, were having a meal.
One of the victims was beaten with a wooden stick and slashed with a knife on the back.
During the struggle, other family members retreated into a room to protect themselves.
The suspects then fled the scene in two vehicles, a Toyota Alphard and a Perodua Myvi, after hearing the victim’s mother scream for help.
The victims later received treatment for injuries to their back, arms, and legs.
The estimated loss includes RM5,000 in cash, while three mobile phones were damaged by the attackers.
Police investigations revealed that the victim recognized one of the attackers as a debt collector from an unlicensed moneylending operation (Ah Long).
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, stated that one of the victims had borrowed money from the Ah Long.
“The group consists of members aged between 18 and 28, with the majority originating from Ayer Tawar.
“They target individuals and small traders who cannot repay loans through daily or weekly installments until the principal debt is fully paid,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery.
