IPOH: Perak state government is working on implementing the proposal to make the Kelumpang flower motif as the official identity for Perak batik.

The Kelumpang flower, which holds historical and cultural significance for the state of Perak, is set to become the cornerstone in developing a unique and easily recognizable batik identity.

This initiative was presented during a session by MB Inc (Perak) with the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation (PKKM) Perak to the State Executive Council members.

The session was chaired by Menteri Besar Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, recently.

Also present were State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim; Chief Executive Officer of MB Inc. Perak, Anuar Zainal Abidin; as well as the management teams of PKKM Perak and MB Inc. Perak.

Kelumpang, or Rusty Sterculia, is a species of plant in the Sterculiaceae family native to tropical Asia.

In addition, a new innovation in the batik production process was introduced, involving the use of clay from Trong, Perak as a color-blocking agent.

This method not only offers a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach but also has the potential to create distinctive patterns and textures, setting Perak batik apart from others in the market.

This initiative is a strategic step to strengthen the state’s handicraft industry, especially in the batik sector.

It is expected to create new economic opportunities, as well as preserve and promote Perak’s cultural heritage at the national and international levels.

Through this initiative, it is hoped that the local batik industry will be revitalized, attracting the younger generation to traditional crafts and enhancing Perak’s competitiveness in the Malaysian textile industry.
