Main Convent Ipoh Class of 81’ recently marked their 60th birthday with a reunion brimming with laughter, joy, and nostalgia. The event successfully gathered 68 former classmates from across the globe, including those who travelled from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.
Under the theme “Reconnect, Renew, Rebond,” the reunion emphasised the importance of maintaining lifelong friendships as the classmates’ step into their golden years. The event kicked off with the National Anthem and the Convent Ipoh school song, immediately evoking fond memories of their school days.
Ms. Barbara Sta Maria, one of the event’s co-organizers and presenters, shared her thoughts on the significance of the reunion: “We wanted to create an event that not only allowed us to reminisce about our school days but also to celebrate the strong bonds of friendship that have endured over the years. It was heartwarming to see everyone come together, just like we did decades ago.”
The day was filled with activities that brought the group closer together. One of the highlights was a lively dance session, where everyone joined in to groove to ’80s hits like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Macarena,” led by talented dancers Divya and Jesslyn. The dance floor was a sea of blue, as everyone followed the dress code—”Be cool in Blue!” The room buzzed with energy, laughter, and plenty of moves that would make anyone feel like a teenager again.
Another fun activity was the “Guess the Baby” game, where classmates tried to match baby photos with the adults in the room. “It was hilarious to see everyone scratching their heads trying to figure out who was who. The room was filled with laughter, and it was one of those moments that you realize how special these friendships are,” Barbara recalled.
The reunion was more than just about reconnecting; it was a celebration of the enduring friendships that have stood the test of time. “Our experience at Convent Ipoh shaped us into the people we are today. The reunion rekindled these timeless bonds,” said one of the attendees. Despite the years that have passed, the group felt as though they were back in their school days, catching up with old friends as if no time had passed at all.
The evening also included a contest for the “Top 5 Cool Ladies in Blue,” where prizes were awarded to those who best embodied the theme. Each table had its own birthday cake, and there was a collective celebration of turning 60, marking a significant milestone in their lives.
Looking ahead, the class is already planning their next gathering in 2028, when they will celebrate turning 64. “We’re already excited about the next reunion. As we move into our golden years, these connections become even more precious,” Barbara added.
