The four participating clubs – Royal Perak Golf Club (RPGC), Ipoh Swimming Club (ISC), Perak Turf Club @ YMCA (PTC) and Team Polo (Polo) – were represented by their Captains and Vice Captains.

The event is organised and managed AMG Sports Management Sdn Bhd (AMG) and sponsored by KLK whose Chairman, Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian, is part of Team RPGC.

It was a David and Goliath battle royale when Tan Sri Lee and partner Ken Chong (right pair, in RPGC team t) took on giants Lam Kar Wai/Dr Goh Dar Wen of ISC. Tan Sri/Ken won it 8-2 in an amazing display of spellbinding tennis as their court craft and doubles strategy prevailed over power and pace.

Joe Hasnan, founder and CEO of AMG, whose company organises and manages tennis camps and coaching courses, as well as events and tournaments throughout the country, said that he was very pleased to introduce the inter-club league to Ipoh for the first time, on the heels of its huge success in Wilayah and Selangor.

At stake is the Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian Challenge Trophy.

Agnes Goh/Lingli Chong of RPGC (right pair, in blue) beat ISC’s Vestene Lam/Cecilia Soong (left pair, in red), 8-4 in a battle royale showcasing ladies doubles at its best.

Tan Sri Lee thanked Joe for bringing the event to Ipoh and hoped it would raise the level of tennis here. “I hope it will also encourage more young people to take up tennis as a sport, as it develops character and mental strength to overcome challenges in life”, Tan Sri Lee said.

RPGC, which later that day hosted its neighbour ISC in the first tie at home, had the best possible start by winning all five matches against ISC – a clean sweep.

Over at YMCA, hosts PTC beat Polo 3-2, making it a home sweet home victory for both hosts.
