PWW’s Laughter Party

Raising Endorphins and Spirits in Ipoh

By Anne Das

In a world where stress can feel like it’s building up faster than ever, PWW decided it was time for a fun, refreshing change. Last Sunday, the Ipoh Garden South location hosted “The Laughter Party,” led by Malaysia’s own Laughing Champion 2024, Ms. Jayamalar Jeyaratnam, where laughing until your belly hurts wasn’t just encouraged—it was mandatory!

The room filled with joy as participants let loose with a selfie laughter exercise

The laughter workout—yes, laughing can be exercise—saw 22 brave souls trade their frowns for laughs. Among them were members of PWW, Pink Champion, and various local communities, all eager to unleash their inner child.

Ms. Jeyaratnam kicked things off by asking participants to rate their mood on a scale of 1 to 10. “Where are you right now? Feeling a bit ‘meh’ or ready to take on the world?” she asked. By the end of the session, not only had everyone hit a solid 10, but they were practically floating off the scale.

The session featured 13 different laughter exercises—think of it as yoga for your funny bone. From making silly faces, mimicking a lion’s roar, and strutting down a catwalk, it was a masterclass in finding joy in the ridiculous. The bonus takeaway? Learning to walk with confidence, even if it’s just to the market. Ms. Jeyaratnam reminded everyone, “Love yourself for what you have, not what you don’t. Respect your body, imperfections pand all.”

One participant couldn’t contain her enthusiasm, sharing, “Had an amazing time at The Laughter Party with Ms. Jeya Jeyaratnam! Who knew that laughing, playing games, and dancing could make you feel like you’ve hit the reset button on life? It was like being a kid again, without any worries!

Participants roar like tigers and end up in fits of laughter

Another participant arrived feeling not-so-great but experienced a significant shift after just an hour of activities. She realised that laughter is a phenomenal healing tool, especially when you let your inhibitions down. “When we laugh, we don’t think about the past or the future. We’re right here, in the moment,” she shared. And let’s be honest, it’s not every day you get to laugh like a loon in the company of like minded people!

The room was soon filled with endorphins, and the only complaint was that time flew by too fast.  As the session wound down, Ms. Jeyaratnam left everyone with a bit of wisdom: “Practice makes perfect—yes, even with laughter! The more you laugh, the more your body will thank you.”

So, next time you’re feeling down, skip the self-help books and try a hearty laugh. After all, why have a bad day when you can laugh it off instead? And who knows—maybe there’s a future Laughing Champion in you, just waiting to be unleashed!

Ms Jeyaratnam receives a token of appreciation from Kimberly Tan of PWW for her inspiring session.

Remember, laughter isn’t just the best medicine—it’s also the cheapest. So, what are you waiting for? Go on, laugh a little. It’s Good for Your Health!
