Cleanliness of Premises, Public Toilets in Ipoh Set Benchmark for City’s Image

By: Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The cleanliness of food premises in this city is continuously monitored by enforcement officers to ensure hygiene standards are maintained and adhered to.

This task is carried out by the Food Safety and Quality Unit of the Environmental Health Department, Ipoh City Council (MBI).

Their focus includes food premises, the appearance of food handlers, food preparation areas, and toilet facilities to meet the standards of cleanliness, attractiveness, and pleasant scents.

These efforts aim to fulfill the expectations of tourists, ensuring that the environment remains clean and safe.

Commenting on this, Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin said that the MBI Environmental Health Department will continue to enhance monitoring and assessment activities for food premises and public toilets within its jurisdiction.

According to him, this is to encourage premise owners to always understand and comply with business requirements issued by the authorities.

“The goal is to improve the cleanliness of premises, provide health education, and share information on activities or programs involving business premises organized by MBI.

“Through such programs, the council has the opportunity to highlight and promote clean business premises while also setting a benchmark for other food and non-food premises,” he said.

Earlier, he officiated the Cleanest Restaurant @ Cafe and Public Toilet Award Program, in conjunction with Ipoh’s 36th City Day celebration.

As of July this year, a total of 981 restaurants, cafes, and dining places have been assessed and graded based on guidelines from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).

Similarly, inspections of public toilets owned by private entities have been conducted by MBI’s General Health Unit, Environmental Health Department.

By July, a total of 119 petrol station toilets, 81 supermarket premises toilets, and 35 hotel toilets were inspected and given star ratings.
