MANJUNG RUN 2024 BRINGS EXCITEMENT FOR MALAYSIAN RUNNERS, INTEGRATING FITNESS WITH TOURISM

The sporting event organized by Vale and Majlis Perbandaran Manjung aims to nurture a fitter, healthier community and inculcate a love for heritage gems

MANJUNG: Vale, one of the world’s leading mining companies, is partnering with Majlis Perbandaran Manjung (Manjung Municipal Council, MPM) to debut Manjung Run 2024, a sporting event offering an exciting proposition for running enthusiasts and nature lovers by integrating fitness with tourism. The event is being held in Beruas for the first time, featuring scenic trails that showcase nature gems and rich heritage of the quaint, charming town in Perak.

Mr Leonardo Paiva, Chief Executive Officer of Vale in Malaysia said, “Manjung Run 2024 aims to strike a balance between encouraging healthier, more active lifestyles and positioning Beruas as a key destination in Perak rooted in rich history and unique charm. Together with Majlis Perbandaran Manjung as our valued partner, we are pleased to debut a sports tourism event designed with local residents and visitors in mind. Manjung Run 2024 reflects a shared commitment towards inclusive, sustainable development in the district, with a focus on community wellbeing and economic prosperity.”

Tuan Muhammad Faizal Shah Safian Suri, Yang Dipertua Majlis Perbandaran Manjung shared that the location for this year’s run holds great significance, “Beruas has so much to offer. It is the site of Gangga Negara, one of the oldest civilizations in Southeast Asia – its stories transcend time, shaping the rich tapestry of architecture and culture synonymous with the town. This positions Beruas as a truly unique and apt destination for Manjung Run 2024 and in highlighting the various tourism offerings in the Manjung district.”

He also shared that Majlis Perbandaran Manjung were highly appreciative of the commitment shown by Vale in contributing towards collectively building the economic landscape of Manjung district and all the corporate social responsibility programmes that had been carried out since 2011 with this year’s Manjung Run 2024 programme reflecting the continuation of goodwill shown by the company. He looks forward to the partnership between both organisations to soar to even greater heights in the years to come, all for the greater good and benefits of Manjung and its people.

Scheduled to take place at Padang Bandaran Beruas, Perak on 19 October, Manjung Run 2024 promises an exhilarating experience for runners of all ages and fitness levels, featuring various categories be it for seasoned marathoners, those new to the running scene or wanting to enjoy a fun and scenic run with their entire family.

Managed by SCORE Marathon, the event has in store four main categories: 3km, 5km, 12km, and newly added 21km half-marathon. Participants can expect a trail that winds through unspoilt nature, picturesque streets, and iconic heritage spots throughout Beruas. Highlights include the recently revitalized Beruas Museum, colonial-era shophouses, and local eateries offering authentic flavours unique to the town, providing opportunities for runners to rest, recharge, and further take in the sights and sounds and explore the gastronomic delights after completing the run, for those with a love for travel. Nature enthusiasts can look forward to passing by Air Terjun Ulu Licin, a stunning waterfall enveloped within a lush rainforest rich in biodiversity.

The 21km category has in store attractive cash prizes comprising RM800 for first place, RM600 for second place, and RM400 for third place for the open and veteran divisions. The 12km category offers prizes comprising RM500 for first place, RM400 for second place and RM300 for third place for the men’s and women’s open and veteran divisions while RM400, RM300 and RM200 will be awarded to those that place first, second and third respectively for the boy’s and girl’s junior divisions.

Runners that complete the 21km run within stipulated cut-off time will receive a finisher t-shirt on top of event t-shirt, while everyone that completes the run regardless of category will get to bring home a unique finisher medal featuring a Beruas shophouse frontage.
