IPOH: The actions of two men, believed to be hired by unlicensed money lenders (loan sharks) to threaten borrowers and cause disturbances, turned against them when they were caught and handed over to the police.

The incident occurred at 1:30 PM yesterday on Jalan Lebuh Bercham Timur, Taman Rima Gamelan.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, stated that the arrest was made by a team from the Bercham Police Station.

He noted that the inspection found four plastic packages containing red-colored liquid suspected to be paint, 17 sheets of paper with borrower details, and three mobile phones.

“We have opened an investigation under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1952 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for vandalism.

“The investigation revealed that they went to an address in Bercham to throw paint and post a notice on a house believed to be a borrower who had failed to repay an online loan.

“However, the homeowner noticed them and chased them to Jalan Lebuh Bercham Timur.

“The suspects, who were driving a car, are believed to have skidded in the area before a scuffle occurred with the homeowner and the public as they tried to restrain them,” he said.

Both suspects sustained minor injuries and were successfully detained with the assistance of the public before being handed over to the police.

The public is advised to be cautious and avoid falling into the trap of unlicensed money lenders, especially those operating online.
