IPOH: The potential for Perak’s durians, including village durians, to enter the global market looks promising due to the high demand and value of the king of fruits in China.

This was observed during a visit by the Perak state government delegation to Shanghai for the Malaysia-China Halal Business Conference.

The delegation was led by Menteri Besar Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

During the visit, the delegation met with several companies that export and market durians to China, including Agro Commz Sdn Bhd (ACSB) and Topone Solution Sdn Bhd (TSSB).

TSSB is one of Malaysia’s leading durian exporters.

According to Saarani, last year TSSB exported 28 containers worth RM17 million, including 5 containers of village durians valued at RM1 million.

Additionally, the export of village durian paste reached 100 metric tons, valued at RM3.5 million.

“This year, TSSB has exported 30 containers worth RM20 million, including 5 containers of village durians, with durian paste exports valued at RM5.25 million.

“This means the demand for our durians in China is very high. Village durians are sold here at RM29 per 600 grams, while Musang King costs RM400 for 2.5kg.

“I also see many other durian-based products being sold here, such as ice cream, biscuits, mochi, dumplings, and more,” he said in a statement.

Perak SADC, through Perak Agro Durian, has partnered with Agro Commz Sdn Bhd (ACSB) and Topone Solution Sdn Bhd (TSSB) to market Perak’s durians to China.

This aligns with Perak SADC’s plan, which is currently developing 1,500 acres of durian farms for ‘Musang King’, ‘Black Thorn’, and village durians.

This collaboration is expected to benefit Perak’s farmers significantly and further expand the market for village durians.
