IPOH: While several major congestion points in the city of Ipoh have been previously highlighted, Medan Gopeng is now becoming a focal point.
Sultan Nazrin Shah Road is one of the hotspots frequently experiencing severe congestion, particularly during peak hours in the morning and evening, including weekends.
The congestion occurs from the overpass to Megoplex, with vehicles aiming to enter Kampung Sungai Rokam, Kampung Melayu Sungai Rapat, or continue towards Simpang Pulai and other destinations.
Recent observations indicate that traffic begins to congest from 5 PM to 7 PM, when people are heading home from work or school.
The route is also congested due to factors such as the traffic from the overpass and underneath it, with vehicles turning left to enter Kampung Sungai Rokam and nearby villages.
The presence of traffic lights in the area appears insufficient to alleviate the existing congestion during peak hours.
In fact, there is only one traffic light provided to enter Kampung Sungai Rokam, causing vehicles to line up and wait multiple cycles for a green light.
Moreover, the journey from Medan Gopeng to Simpang Pulai is also congested with vehicles.
The increase in vehicles in the city and the presence of visitors on weekends may contribute to this unusual congestion.
It is hoped that the authorities will consider alternatives to reduce congestion at the mentioned locations.
