BUKIT GANTANG: The Malaysia Day celebrations were marked with a unique twist as the local community here held a decorated boat competition full of vibrant colors.
A total of 31 boats were creatively decorated, with the mandatory display of the Jalur Gemilang, as well as state flags according to individual creativity.
This event is the second edition, following its initiation by Bukit Gantang Member of Parliament, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal.
The initiative to introduce this event also aims to enhance the appeal of the tourism products around the coastal areas of Bukit Gantang.
Not only were the boats beautifully decorated, but the helmsmen and their family members participating in the sea parade also wore patriotic-themed attire.
Some donned traditional headgear and attire to attract the attention of the judges.
The event appears well-suited to the local environment, which has tourism potential involving fishermen.
Meanwhile, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz mentioned that the inaugural event held two years ago attracted visitors from outside the district.
“Such activities indirectly boost the local economy, which is predominantly supported by fishermen.
“There are many places to explore, such as experiencing the natural scenery of the coastal areas and various activities involving agro-tourism,” he said.
