KUALA KANGSAR: A factory producing laksa and kway teow in Sungai Siput was raided yesterday after it was found to be using an invalid halal logo.
The raid was conducted during an operation by the enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Kuala Kangsar Branch, in collaboration with the Kuala Kangsar District Health Office, the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk), and the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council.
According to the Director of KPDN Perak, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, further inspections of the final products at the factory revealed halal logos on the packaging of laksa and kway teow.
“It is believed that these laksa and kway teow products were intended for distribution and sale in Perak and Penang.
“Further inspections found that the business owner failed to present a valid Malaysian Halal Certification.
“As a result, legal action has been taken under the Trade Description Order (Certification and Halal Marking) 2011 for allegedly using the halal logo without permission,” he said here today.
He stated that a total of 3,020 units of packaged laksa and kway teow products, along with three rolls of plastic containers displaying the invalid halal logo, were seized for trading purposes, along with related documents.
The total estimated value of the seized items is RM5,828.50.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Trade Description Order (Certification and Halal Marking) 2011, which pertains to falsely certifying any food as halal.
Additionally, he mentioned that the integrated operation also detected two offenses under the Weights and Measures Act 1972, resulting in a compound of RM1,000.
