GEA and MPM Collaborate to Ethically Dispose of Used Cooking Oil

By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: Efforts to encourage the residents of Manjung to adopt environmentally friendly practices have been strengthened with the establishment of a new operation for the efficient collection of used cooking oil.

This follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Green Energy Asia (GEA, also known as Biovisma Sdn Bhd) and the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM).

GEA is a licensed and certified company that collects and purchases used cooking oil from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification.

The MoU was signed by MPM President Muhammad Faizal Shah Safian Suri and GEA Managing Director Mervyn Cheng.

This collaboration is expected to have a positive impact and provide significant benefits to the Manjung community, particularly in environmental protection and ensuring sustainability.

The initiative will focus on the ethical disposal of used cooking oil.

It aims not only to reduce pollution but also to enhance sustainable recycling practices.

Additionally, it will contribute to better and more environmentally friendly waste management.

The duration of this memorandum of understanding is two years.

GEA aims to collect approximately 10 tons per month, and over the past two months, 2.2 tons of used cooking oil have been collected in Manjung.

A total of 37 premises have committed to disposing of used cooking oil with GEA as MPM’s strategic partner, and this number is expected to grow.

GEA’s focus includes food businesses, hotels, seafood manufacturing factories, hospitals, and residential areas.

Previously, GEA signed a similar MoU with the Ipoh City Council and the Kampar District Council.
