Newborn Baby Girl Abandoned in Taiping, Suspect Arrested

TAIPING: Police have arrested a 34-year-old Nepali man believed to be involved in the case of an abandoned newborn baby girl found near the Larut River in Simpang here yesterday.

According to Taiping District Police Chief, ACP Mohamad Nasir Ismail, said at around 3:32 AM on Wednesday, the police received a report from the emergency department of Taiping Hospital regarding a Cambodian woman who had just given birth.

However, the woman claimed that her baby had died and was not brought to the hospital.

“The victim in this case is a newborn baby girl suspected to have been abandoned.

“In response, a team of officers and personnel from the Taiping District Police Headquarters was mobilised to locate the suspect and successfully apprehended a Nepali man within 24 hours.

“The suspect indicated the location where the baby’s body was abandoned, which is by the Larut River in Simpang,” he said here today.

Mohamad Nasir stated that an investigation paper has been opened under Section 318 of the Penal Code.

This section pertains to the intentional concealment of a child’s birth by secretly disposing of the child’s body.

If convicted, the penalty could be imprisonment for a term of up to two years, or a fine, or both.

He also urged the community in Taiping, particularly, to continue providing information to the police to ensure public safety and order.
