IPOH – Perak successfully welcomed 17.1 million domestic tourists throughout 2023, placing the state among the top four preferred destinations in Malaysia.

Perak Menteri Besar, Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, said the achievement reflects a more than 17 percent increase compared to 14.6 million visitors the previous year.

“Iconic locations such as Pulau Pangkor and Lost World of Tambun, along with exotic accommodation destinations like Gopeng Glamping Park, Kuak Hill, and Denai Kabus, have contributed to the rise in tourist numbers.

“Domestic tourists, including overnight visitors, are increasingly attracted to Perak, with 7.50 million overnight tourists last year, an increase from 6.87 million in 2022.

“With this positive response, we are confident that we can achieve the target of 8 million domestic tourists and 350,000 international tourists during Visit Perak Year 2024,” he said during his speech at the Perak Tourism Awards 2024 held at Casuarina @ Meru, Ipoh, last night.

He added that the state’s tourism revenue is projected to reach RM10 billion through Visit Perak Year 2024, which will have a major impact on Perak’s economic development.

“The role of the younger generation and social media influencers through platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook has been instrumental in promoting Perak’s tourism products.

“Their contributions are greatly appreciated, as they have helped elevate Perak as an international tourism destination.

“This international recognition includes Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat being named Malaysia’s Best Spa Hotel, Pulau Pangkor ranking 8th in the list of the World’s Best Honeymoon Destinations, and Perak’s local coffee being ranked 10th in Taste Atlas’ Top 39 Coffees In The World,” he added.

The Perak Tourism Awards 2024 featured 46 award categories, recognizing industry players who have contributed to the development of the state’s tourism sector.

“This success is the result of close cooperation from all parties, and I am confident that with continuous support, Perak’s tourism sector will continue to grow.

“With new markets like Japan and China, as well as aggressive domestic promotion, Perak will remain a competitive and popular tourism destination globally,” he said.
