IPOH: Five business premises in Perak were raided for allegedly selling and distributing counterfeit goods, including branded mobile phone parts and accessories.
According to the Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for Perak, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, the raids took place this week in five business locations near Ipoh, Sitiawan, and Taiping.
“KPDN Perak is conducting operations to combat the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods, specifically parts and accessories for branded mobile phones such as Huawei and Samsung.
“The raids were prompted by complaints from trademark representatives regarding the sale of suspected counterfeit mobile phone parts and accessories at these premises.
“During the inspections, 617 units of mobile phone parts and 518 units of mobile phone accessories were found, all suspected of bearing registered trademarks improperly applied to these goods,” he stated on Friday.
Kamalludin noted that representatives from the trademark companies conducted preliminary verification of the items, indicating that the premises may have violated the Trade Marks Act 2019.
This is due to possessing, managing, or controlling goods for trade or manufacturing that bear a registered trademark improperly under Section 100, which is suspected to have been committed under Section 102 (1) (c) of the Trade Marks Act 2019.
“All items and documents have been seized for further investigation. The total value of the seizures from these five premises is estimated at RM26,430.
“The case will be investigated under the Trade Marks Act 2019,” he added.
He emphasized that, in addition to protecting consumer rights, KPDN is serious about safeguarding the rights of trademark owners through continuous monitoring and intelligence on premises selling branded goods.
This effort aims to combat the sale of counterfeit goods and enhance the confidence of foreign investors, especially in Perak.
