IPOH: The dirty habits of some residents who frequently litter are resistant to change, as public areas should not be dumping grounds.
Efforts have been ineffective due to a lack of care and cleanliness.
Since three years ago, up to September this year, 2,015 ‘No Dumping’ signs have been placed in illegal dumping hotspot locations.
This serves as a reminder and warning to the public to keep these areas clean and dispose of waste properly.
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) stated that various initiatives have been implemented to achieve the goal of making Ipoh a Clean, Safe, and Smart city.
“This year, there are 120 illegal dumping hotspots throughout the Ipoh City Council’s administrative area.
“As of September, 6 illegal dumping locations have been successfully closed.
“MBI has conducted various programs and efforts to tackle the issue of illegal dumping.
“Therefore, the community must play a more active role in achieving this mission,” the statement said.
Previously, a major community cleanup program, ‘Fight Against Illegal Dumping: Clean and Healthy Perak (Perak Best) 2024,” was held at Jalan Harilela 1A, Taman Sri Rapat.
This involved cleaning up illegal dumping sites, installing ‘No Dumping’ signs, and distributing 567 free 120-liter bins to residents of Taman Sri Rapat (Phase 1) and Medan Lapangan Idaman.
This is part of the Local Agenda 21 initiative, a program aimed at fostering partnerships between local authorities, the community, and the private sector.
The event was officiated by MBI City Secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak and attended by Gopeng MP Tan Kar Hing.
