IPOH: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), through the National Heritage Department in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Jakarta and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Malaysia, had chosen Perak to host the International Seminar on the Preservation and Protection of the Integrity of World Heritage Sites.
The seminar programme took place from October 7 to October 10 at Hotel Casuarina@Meru, Meru Raya.
The Chairman of the Committee for Tourism, Industry, Investment, and State Corridor Development, Loh Sze Yee, expressed that the Perak State Government was honoured to have collaborated in organising this seminar.
He noted that the event aligned with the Visit Perak Year 2024 initiative.
“The selection of Perak for this seminar was appropriate given its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes.
“In fact, Perak is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Lenggong Valley, which showcases archaeological discoveries and tells the story of early human civilization.
“Therefore, we aimed not only to showcase the beauty of Perak but also the commitment of the Perak State Government to preserve the cultural and historical treasures that make Perak a unique state,” he said.
Sze Yee added that the seminar discussed critical issues regarding the preservation of cultural heritage sites in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, gathering speakers and participants from various backgrounds in Malaysia.
“We brought together speakers from overseas, including Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, the Philippines, Laos, and Australia,” he said.
