IPOH – The Malaysia Open Aerobics Program is set to be listed as an annual event to promote a healthy lifestyle among the people of Perak.
Perak State Committee Chairman for Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports, YB Khairudin Abu Hanipah, said the aerobics program not only fosters teamwork but also helps cultivate a healthy and productive generation.
“Programs like this not only attract interest from various segments of society but also see participation from preschool and primary school teams from Bagan Datoh and Teluk Intan. This demonstrates comprehensive involvement, including from the younger generation.
“The program also marks the beginning of revitalising aerobics as a key element in student education, in line with the National Education Philosophy, which emphasises emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual, and social balance,” he said.
Khairudin added that the state is considering collaborating with the Perak State Education Department to organise an aerobics competition among preschools statewide, to be overseen by Kelab Sukan Kecergasan Wawasan (KSKW).
The aim is to provide a platform for children to engage in healthy activities and grow up with a sound mind.
He made these remarks during an interview with Ipoh Echo and Peraktastic after the program at AEON Klebang recently.
Khairudin also mentioned that this initiative aims to reintroduce aerobics, which has somewhat faded with the emergence of newer recreational activities.
“Aerobics will be included in the state’s annual calendar of events to ensure the participation of all departments, agencies, and the community in sports activities, in line with the National Sports Day goal of ‘Fitness for All,’” he added.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Kelab Sukan Kecergasan Wawasan, Noradidah Mokhtar welcomed the proposal and expressed readiness to manage the aerobics program under KSKW.
“I fully support this idea, especially in involving more preschool and primary school students in the activity. Programs like this receive good responses as society is increasingly aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
A total of 10 teams participated in this year’s Malaysia Open Aerobics Competition. Squad Explode emerged as the champion, taking home RM2,000, while the runner-up was Zero Eight Idol (RM1,500), third place went to Kelab Kecergasan Keharmonian Kampar (RM1,000), and fourth place was secured by Interbeatz, with a prize of RM800.
