IPOH: The issue of the collapsed drain structure troubling residents at Regat Jupiter in Taman Star since March has finally caught the attention of the Ipoh City Council (MBI).
Following reports on the Ipoh Echo portal and Facebook, as well as Peraktastic, it has been confirmed that recovery work has been undertaken by MBI’s Engineering Department.
According to the complainant, Patt Soo Har, 82, MBI workers have placed warning signs and cones around the area where the drain had collapsed and covered with canvas.
“Recently, MBI came and put up warning signs and barriers around the collapsed drain structure.
“At least the public and traffic users will be more aware of the road conditions there. I hope the repair work will be carried out as soon as possible.
“Thank you to Ipoh Echo for bringing this issue to light,” she said.
Previously, Ipoh Echo and Peraktastic reported that the collapsed drain structure, which has been an issue since March at Regat Jupiter near Kampung Simee, not only worried residents but was also said to cause water pooling, leading to a rise in dengue fever cases in the area.
Resident Patt Soo Har stated that despite multiple complaints, no repair work had been done by the authorities.
She further claimed that the collapsed area had only been covered with canvas since March.
“This drain issue has been ongoing since around March or April. I have made complaints to MBI, but no repairs have been carried out.
“They only came to cover the collapsed area with canvas, and now it’s almost the end of the year with no repairs done.
“When it rains heavily, water does not flow properly in this collapsed drain and only pools in one area, causing mosquito problems.
“This area has seen three dengue cases among residents. I am very disappointed with this situation,” she said, having lived there for nearly 30 years with her husband and child.
She added that the collapsed drain has also created a hole in the road, raising concerns about the potential for sinkholes, similar to recent incidents in Kuala Lumpur.
