SUNGAI SIPUT: A total of 135,000 fish and giant prawn fries valued at RM22,000 have been released into the waters of Sungai Perlus.
Among the species released are River Lampan, Baung, and Giant Prawns.
The Chairman of the Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture, and Food Industry Committee of Perak, Datuk Zolkafly Harun, stated that since February this year, a total of 52 release programmes have been conducted.
“The releases involved 2,741,630 fish and giant prawn fries valued at RM710,000, which have been released into the rivers of Perak.
“The state government hopes that the programmes and policies planned and implemented by the Perak Fisheries Department will enhance and sustain resources in public waters and conserve the river’s heritage,” he said on Facebook.
He added that the release of these fries will indirectly benefit the daily income of fishermen.
“This release will benefit the daily earnings of more than 3,000 inland fishermen in the state,” he said.
