Camp-Building Activity Teaches Skills to Children in Langkap

By Anne Das

A group of former Junior Work (JW) leaders recently organised a camp-building activity in Langkap, Perak, aimed at educating children on practical skills and the value of teamwork. The event, led by Fredrick Das, involved children aged nine to 15 from the Sungkai Lutheran Church.

Over 45 children participated in a series of hands-on activities, including constructing towers, tents, tables, benches, and shoe racks. Other activities such as tea boiling, knots training, and various games were also conducted to enhance the children’s understanding of camp-building and encourage them to work together as a team.

Mr. Fredrick Das, who was instrumental in organising the program, said the event aimed to impart valuable JW-related skills to the younger generation. “We came all the way from KL to share our knowledge on camp-building. The children had a great experience and learned valuable skills while working as a team,” he said.

The camp-building activity was supported by former JW leaders, many of whom were part of the first batch of juniors in 1984. Their involvement highlighted their continued dedication to passing on their expertise to the next generation. Notable contributors included senior leader P. Kumar, whose extensive experience has shaped many current leaders into skilled craftsmen.

Other key leaders assisting in the program were master builders Christopher D. Philips, Lesley Achariam, Terence D. Philips, Andrew, and Kiran Sam Raj. The group of friends, who have known each other for over 40 years, came together once again to share their skills and support the camp-building initiative.

This event not only equipped the children with practical skills but also fostered a sense of community and teamwork, essential values that the JW leaders hope to continue passing on.
