IPOH – The issue of the Kinta Riverwalk being shrouded in darkness has been addressed as the Ipoh City Council (MBI) has identified the cause of the malfunction and will intensify maintenance efforts.
MBI’s Director of Works & Building, Ir Ts Arif Mohd Zainudin, stated that the council has been carrying out maintenance by replacing lighting components, and lamp sets, and inspecting the wiring, which was the primary cause of the breakdown.
“The lights in this area often ‘trip’ due to weather conditions, particularly during the rainy season. We also discovered that irresponsible parties have tampered with the distribution boxes for the decorative lights around the Kinta Riverwalk.
“As a safety measure, we have added additional locks to the distribution boxes to prevent further incidents,” he said.
He also noted that MBI continuously repairs the decorative lights at Kinta Riverwalk based on public complaints and routine inspections. These repair works are undertaken by MBI’s annual electrical maintenance contractor for the Recreation Park and Hall Zone.
At the same time, he mentioned the issue with the decorative lights on the Kinta Riverwalk bridges, which are no longer functioning as they should.
“The decorative lights on each bridge have their unique theme and features. We are currently working to source replacement parts for these lights as soon as possible.
“As a temporary solution, we have installed 24 units of 100-watt LED lights to ensure the bridges are well-lit and safe,” he explained.
Recently, Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic reported that the popular tourist spot had been plunged into darkness, leading to a drop in tourist visits and increasing the risk of immoral social activities.
