IPOH – To raise awareness about the dangers of stroke, World Stroke Day will be commemorated in Ipoh on October 29.

The programme, organised by the Malaysia Stroke Council in collaboration with the Perak State Health Department and Ipoh City Council, aims to shed light on stroke as one of Malaysia’s top three causes of death.

A statement from the Perak State Health Department revealed concerning statistics, noting that nearly 2.3 million Malaysians now suffer from chronic conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus, hypertension, and high cholesterol levels.

“Furthermore, more than half a million individuals face the compounded risk of four health issues, including obesity,” the statement highlighted.

As part of this year’s event, the main highlight will be the Stroke Run, covering a 5-kilometer distance.

Additionally, there will be health screenings and educational exhibitions by the Department of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation, and Department of Pharmacy from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun.

“These activities aim to offer the public insights into preventive measures and stroke treatment,” the statement continued.

“It is hoped that this program will increase public awareness of stroke while encouraging a healthy lifestyle for the well-being of Malaysians,” it concluded.
