KUALA LUMPUR: Free tolls will be provided to all highway users for two days starting tomorrow in conjunction with Deepavali.
The Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, stated that the free tolls will begin at 12:01 AM on October 29 and end at 11:59 PM on October 30, or this Wednesday.
“The toll exemption is only applicable to Class 1 vehicles (private vehicles) at all toll plazas except for the border toll plazas, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Toll on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll on the Second Link Malaysia-Singapore (LINKEDUA) highway in Johor,” he said in a statement.
Alexander mentioned that the estimated cost of providing free tolls is RM38 million, which will be borne by the government, with compensation payments made to all involved toll concession companies.
“This free toll provision aligns with the core principles of the Malaysian government MADANI, namely Welfare and Compassion, in helping to alleviate the cost of living for the people, as well as strengthening the culture of unity among the multi-ethnic community in this country,” he said.
In this regard, he hopes highway users will take advantage of this opportunity and plan their journeys to facilitate traffic movement based on the provided guidelines.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Works, the Malaysian Highway Authority, and all Highway Concession Companies, I urge road users to drive prudently and comply with all established regulations.
“Take a break if you feel tired or drowsy. Let us all work together to make our highways safe, clean, and comfortable while reducing road accident statistics in Malaysia,” he said.
