Rozita Salleh, 54, the producer of this homemade delight, initially began her venture to fill her free time but has now seen a significant rise in demand, reaching the market in Sarawak.
“I have been producing these frozen curry puffs for almost a year and never expected that the demand would increase day by day. Currently, I can prepare between 70 to 90 pieces each day. However, during the festive season, the demand skyrockets to as high as 500 pieces a day.
“It’s not easy to prepare these intricate curry puffs; it requires patience. Customer satisfaction is my priority, and their large size is why I call them ‘Montel.’ Besides, I am not in it for the profits,” she said during an interview at her home in Malim Nawar.
She further emphasised that in making Curry Puff ‘Montel’, she prioritises quality and taste, ensuring that every bite brings satisfaction to her customers.
“Most customers return to place orders after trying these curry puffs. Each piece is filled with a dense potato filling, offering a traditional taste reminiscent of what our ancestors made.
“In the Kampar and Malim Nawar areas, this authentic-flavoured curry puff is rarely available, which is why Curry Puff ‘Montel’ has become a popular choice for breakfast or tea time,” she explained.
For those eager to try, a packet of frozen curry puffs (10 pieces) is priced at RM6.00, while the fried ones are sold at RM0.70 each. Orders should be placed three days in advance for small quantities and a week in advance for larger orders.
