KUALA LUMPUR: The West Ipoh Span Expressway (WISE), spanning 60.88 kilometers, will serve as a new connection for users.
The construction of WISE from Kuala Kangsar to Gopeng, passing through Siputeh and Batu Gajah in Perak, is expected to alleviate traffic and reduce the risk of accidents.
The Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, stated that the project, which will cost approximately RM6 billion, is expected to be completed by 2028.
WISE is also anticipated to help ease traffic congestion on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) along the Gopeng to Kuala Kangsar route.
“Although I come from Sarawak, I have read extensively about the accidents and frequent congestion that occur in this area, which are partly due to slow vehicle movement caused by the hilly terrain in the Gopeng-Kuala Kangsar region.
“Understanding the difficulties and the importance of public safety, the implementation of the WISE project as an alternative route is hoped to provide a solution to congestion and accidents on this route.
“I hope the concession company entrusted with this project will carry out their responsibilities with integrity and meet all stipulated requirements, standards, and specifications.”
He said this during the signing ceremony for the WISE Highway Concession Agreement, marking the beginning of a new journey for Malaysians.
With this highway, it is expected to reduce congestion at the Menora Tunnel and provide a safer and smoother route.
The WISE project is a commitment to enhance travel safety and offer an alternative for PLUS highway users.
