Ipoh: A report by Ipoh Echo and Peraktastic about a senior citizen’s persistent habit of hoarding waste at her residence prompted swift action from the Ipoh City Council (MBI) yesterday.
Previously, the elderly woman in her 70s had been fined three times and taken to court, yet continued to accumulate large amounts of trash at her home in Taman Ipoh, Jalan Merpati, causing distress to nearby residents.
Yesterday morning, MBI, in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), conducted a fourth operation to clear the waste, estimated to weigh around 0.7 metric tons, from the property.
The operation, which began around 8:30 a.m., lasted four hours, with the homeowner fully cooperating.
“A total of 710 kilograms of waste, including plastic, paper, metal, and wood, was collected during this operation,” stated an MBI spokesperson.
It is understood that the homeowner has been brought to court twice over the past four years and fined, but has continued to repeat her actions.
The collected materials were later sent to a Recycling Center in the IGB Industrial Area with the homeowner’s consent. MBI also ensured that she received payment from the recycling company based on the weight of the items.
MBI advised the homeowner to maintain direct contact with recycling services in the future to prevent waste buildup and protect the environment.
“If this situation persists, we will not hesitate to take more stringent legal action,” the statement added.
