IPOH: A video that went viral since last Friday shows the carcasses of dogs along with live puppies left in a pit after allegedly being captured and shot by local authority officers.

According to a report by New Straits Times, the incident is said to have occurred at a waste disposal site in the Manjung district.

The shocking video was recorded by animal activist acquaintance Khairil Azhar Khairuddin.

The video shows several dogs, some still wearing collars, dumped in a pit approximately 1.2 meters deep at the garbage disposal site.

Khairil Azhar is also a former member of the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM).

It is also understood that the video has caught the attention of the Exco for Housing and Local Government of Perak, who has filed an official complaint with the MPM.

Meanwhile, an insider source from MPM told Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic that the viral video is not true.

The source also informed that the senior management of MPM will issue an official statement to the media to address the viral issue.

Meanwhile, animal activist Nazirah Abdul Rahman, 47, who was saddened by the viral video, described such cruel actions as something that should not have happened.

Nazirah, who conducts street feeding activities for stray dogs in Ipoh, emphasized that authorities need to address the stray animal issue in the proper way.

“If the issue is overbreeding, then we should consider spaying or neutering these animals.

“Pet owners should also be encouraged to spay or neuter their pets to prevent them from breeding and becoming a burden.

“There needs to be a campaign to raise awareness on animal sterilization, and there should be reduced clinic costs for pet owners who wish to neuter their pets,” she said.
