BERUAS: A total of 76 undocumented migrants (PATI) were arrested during a joint operation by the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Perak in Pantai Remis.
The operation, which also involved the General Operations Force (PGA) and the Maritime team, began on Friday night and ended on Saturday morning.
Perak JIM Director, Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, stated that the operation was conducted based on complaints and intelligence gathered prior to the raid.
“The operation started at 9 PM on Friday and ended at 7 AM on Saturday.
“A total of 125 JIM officers, 100 PGA officers, and 36 Maritime officers were involved in the operation.
“Checks were carried out on 153 individuals from various nationalities, and 76 of them were arrested as they were reasonably believed to have committed offenses under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said here today.
He added that those detained included nationals from Cambodia (9), Thailand (8), Myanmar (56), and Indonesia (3).
They consisted of 50 men, 22 women, and four children, ranging in age from 4 months to 61 years old.
As a result, all the undocumented migrants were held at the Ipoh Immigration Depot for further investigation and legal action under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
This includes entering and staying in Malaysia without a valid pass, Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act for overstaying after the expiration of the pass, and offenses under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating the conditions of their pass.
