UPDATE: MPM Denies Viral Video of Dog Killing, Files Police Report for Investigation

By: Zaki Salleh

MANJUNG: Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) takes the viral video seriously, which was uploaded by the account owner ‘Kyrilescobar@kyril_graguks’, lasting 16 seconds, concerning the disposal of a dog with the intent to link it to the local authority, specifically MPM.

The video, which has been shared across various social media platforms, has caused public negative perceptions about MPM.

The dog carcasses shown in the video do not reflect the actual location of the MPM street dog transit center. In fact, the location in the video could not be identified and has no connection to MPM.

The MPM Strategic Communications and Public Relations Department issued a statement asserting that all allegations and claims spreading are false and completely contrary to the procedures currently being followed by MPM.

The statement emphasized that MPM takes the welfare of animals seriously and always ensures that any actions taken in managing stray animals are in compliance with the law and established ethics.

“Therefore, MPM needs to provide the appropriate clarification to address the confusion and misunderstandings arising from this video.

“MPM firmly denies the claims made in the video and the viral news that suggest the disposal of stray dogs in the Manjung area is carried out in a cruel manner,” the statement said.

MPM has received complaints from the public regarding dog carcasses that died due to accidents and needed to be cleaned up.

In such cases, the carcasses of the dogs that have died are buried at the transit center as part of the animal management process set by MPM.

MPM would like to stress that no euthanasia by shooting takes place at the transit center and hopes no misunderstandings arise regarding this matter.

“It is informed that the dog carcasses shown were collected and disposed of from dogs that died in the MPM area due to accidents or illness.

“MPM emphasizes that all actions regarding the capture and disposal of stray dogs are fully carried out according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

“This is in accordance with the Circular of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing, and Local Government No. 5 of 2014, as well as the Dog Licensing By-Laws (Manjung District Council) 1983,” the statement added.

Based on investigations and checks, MPM found that the location shown in the video could not be verified, but it is clearly different from the current condition of MPM’s transit center.

MPM also denies any connection to the shooting of stray dogs in the Segari Forest. Instead, MPM only released the dogs at the Teluk Mengkudu Waste Disposal Site in Segari.

MPM assures that all animal disposal procedures are conducted responsibly, ethically, and in accordance with the law.

As a result, a police report has been filed regarding the video, which appears to make unfounded accusations.
