GOPENG: Immediate action and cooperation from the local community, including the Gopeng Member of Parliament’s Service Center, have allowed the operation to assist flood victims to proceed smoothly.
Severe flooding began at around 2:30 PM yesterday due to a dam burst in the Kinta River near Kampung Seri Jaya.
Around 7-8 PM, another dam burst occurred in Kampung Pisang, causing residents in Tasik Idaman and Kampung Pisang to also be affected by major flooding.
Gopeng Member of Parliament, Tan Kar Hing, expressed his gratitude to all the agencies and volunteers who worked tirelessly to assist.
“As of this morning, several areas still affected by the floods include Kampung Seri Jaya, Tasik Idaman, Kampung Pisang, and Kampung Seran.
“Two temporary evacuation centers have been opened to accommodate flood victims at the Kinta Town Hall and Sekolah Kebangsaan Toh Indera Wangsa Ahmad in Sungai Terap.
“Additionally, some flood victims are taking shelter at the homes of relatives and friends, and they will register at the Village Head’s Office today,” he said.
Kar Hing also thanked the Kiwanis Club of Gopeng Perak for lending three boats to assist flood victims with safety patrols and moving essential belongings.
“At the moment, the Gopeng team has assisted with the management of the evacuation of victims, and we have provided food and drinks to the flood victims.
“The Gopeng team is also planning post-flood work, particularly the cleaning efforts that will follow.
“If you are interested in donating time, effort, or cleaning equipment, please contact 012-769 0116 (William),” he added.
