IPOH: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has approved a funding allocation of RM108.5 million for the flood mitigation project along the Kinta River in Ipoh and Kampar.

Minister Nga Kor Ming stated that the allocation aims to prevent recurring flooding incidents in the Arena Kepayang Putra area near Fair Park, as well as to upgrade the embankments along the Kinta River.

He explained that the project is part of a long-term solution to address flood risks due to the increasing impact of climate change.

Nga had earlier visited the flood-affected areas in Arena Kepayang Putra near Fair Park, Ipoh.

During his visit, he presented mattresses to residents affected by the disaster.

Also present were Canning State Assemblywoman Jenny Choy, Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, and Director of the Perak State Irrigation and Drainage Department, Ir Dr. Asnor Muizan Dato’ Ishak.

On Sunday, the Arena Kepayang Putra residential area experienced its first-ever flooding, with water levels reaching approximately 1.5 meters due to the overflow of the Kinta River.
