MANJUNG: A baby boy, still alive, was found wrapped in cloth in a bush near a surau (prayer hall) in Kampung Permatang, Sitiawan yesterday.
According to Manjung District Police Chief, ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman, the police received a call from public regarding the discovery at 6:45 PM.
He said the investigation revealed that the baby was found by a member of the surau’s committee, who was there to clean the area surrounding the surau.
“The committee member heard the sound of a baby crying and followed the sound until he found the baby in the bushes.
“The baby was referred to Hospital Seri Manjung for further treatment,” he said in a statement here today.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code, and the police are currently searching for the baby’s mother.
