LUMUT: The Perak State Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritim Malaysia), through the Langkawi Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC), assisted in evacuating a local fishing vessel crew member who sustained a broken leg 53 nautical miles northwest of Pangkor Island yesterday.

The Director of Perak Maritime, Captain Mohamad Shukri Khotob, reported that 59-year-old Thai national Bunkrong sustained an injury to his left leg while carrying out his daily tasks on the fishing vessel at 7:40 a.m.

As a result, a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) was carried out to transfer the victim to a different location for treatment.

“Maritim Perak deployed assets to the incident site to assist in transferring the victim from the fishing vessel to the Marine Police Force (PPM) Jetty in Kampung Acheh.

“The victim was then transported by ambulance from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) to the Seri Manjung Hospital around 12:10 p.m.

“The victim later received further treatment and is reported to be in stable condition,” he said here today.

Maritim Malaysia is requesting the cooperation of the public, especially the maritime community, to report any information or emergency incidents occurring in Malaysian waters via the emergency line 999 or the Perak State Maritime Operations Centre at 05-6838737.
