TAPAH: A total of 26 individuals were arrested for their alleged involvement in cockfighting gambling activities in this district yesterday.
According to Perak’s Deputy Police Chief, Deputy Commissioner Zulkafli Sariaat, all the suspects were arrested in a raid conducted by the D7 Division of the Criminal Investigation Department from the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters, together with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tapah District Police Headquarters.
“The 26 suspects consist of (1) Chinese male, (1) Indian male, (3) Malay males, (3) Iban males, (17) Indonesian males, and (1) Indonesian female.
“They are aged between 31 and 50 years.
“The raid took place on December 25 at around 2 p.m., and the police also seized 49 fighting cocks, five metal cages, 22 mobile phones, and cash amounting to RM18,314,” he said here today.
As a result, all the suspects have been remanded for four days, from December 26 to 29, to facilitate further investigation.
Zulkafli added that the case is being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Open Gambling House Act 1953, Section 32(1)(a), and Section 32(2)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
