IPOH: The majority of the Ipoh City Council’s (MBI) assessment tax has been reduced by 0.25 to 2 percent depending on the type of building.
The confirmation of the new valuation list was published in the Perak State Government Gazette on December 26, 2024.
Ipoh Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, stated that the matter was approved by the Perak State Executive Council (MMK) on December 11, 2024.
He mentioned that MBI had conducted several engagement sessions with property owners.
“The MBI engagement session with residents and property owners was held on November 12. Around 900 people attended to review the new valuation list.
“A session with the Members of the Perak State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) and Members of Parliament within the MBI area was also held on November 26,” he said in a statement.
MBI also held engagement sessions with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Perak Branch, the Perak Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DPMM), and the Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI).
The same session was also conducted with the Perak Indian Chamber of Commerce (PICC) and the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Perak.
Through these sessions, a resolution was reached to establish an Arbitration Committee consisting of three Council Members, representatives from the involved associations, the MBI Valuation and Property Department, and chaired by a Council Member.
“MBI held the Phase 1 Objection Hearing session on December 6, which involved 80 property owners.
“The Phase 2 Objection Hearing session will continue from January 7, 2025, until mid-March 2025,” he said
The findings from the engagement sessions and the Objection Hearings will serve as the basis for determining the assessment tax.
