IPOH: Perak’s excellence in hockey is undeniable, and the state has also produced many talented young players.

One of the key figures is Mohd Nizam Mohd Hashim, 56, the Head Coach of the Perak Men’s Sukma Hockey Team.

He led Perak to victory at the 2024 Sukma in Sarawak, in addition to securing numerous other wins.

A teacher at SMK Anderson, he has also been entrusted with coaching Perak in the National Youth Hockey League since 2011.

“I train players aged 13 to 21. The training process runs from January to December.

“The biggest challenge as a head coach is that we need to diversify training methods to suit the players,” he said.

As a coach, Mohd Nizam expressed his satisfaction in seeing players he has mentored go on to represent the senior national team, achieving success on the bigger stage.
