GERIK: A premises in Lenggong was raided for allegedly selling 1-kilogram packets of cooking oil above the government-set price.
According to the Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Perak, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, the premises was found to be selling the cooking oil packets at RM 2.70, exceeding the government’s controlled price of RM 2.50.
He added that the raid took place on Saturday at approximately 10 a.m. by the KPDN Perak Gerik branch.
“This action was taken following a public tip-off. The complainant claimed that the premises was selling the 1kg cooking oil packets above the set price,” he said through statement here today.
As a result, KPDN enforcement officers conducted a thorough inspection of the premises and discovered 60 packets of 1kg cooking oil at the back of the store.
Additionally, 13 more packets were found in boxes at the front of the premises, tagged with the price of RM 2.50.
“Action has been taken under Section 12 of the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (Act 599) for misleading pricing of goods.
“The case will be investigated under the Consumer Protection Act 1999,” he added.
