Call for Action on Obstructions Along Jalan Pegoh

By: Zaki Salleh

IPOH: Frequent drivers on Jalan Pegoh are no strangers to the challenges posed by obstructions at the junction leading to Persiaran Pegoh.

The poor condition of the road shoulders, riddled with potholes, prevents vehicles from overtaking, resulting in severe traffic congestion.

This issue is particularly problematic during peak hours — mornings when parents drop off their children at nearby schools, shoppers head to the market, and commuters travel to work. The situation worsens in the evenings, especially on Thursdays, when a night market adds to the congestion.

The problem has persisted for three years but has grown increasingly severe in recent months.

Given that this is a primary road, the question arises: why hasn’t this issue caught the attention of the responsible authorities?

According to Mohamad Raihan Suleiman, a frequent driver, the congestion affects anyone travelling through the area, especially during peak hours.

He urged the authorities to take proactive measures rather than waiting for public complaints.

“The left side of this road has a reserve area planted with decorative plants and coconut trees.

“Why not just widen the road shoulder so vehicles can overtake? This simple step could resolve the problem,” he suggested.

Food delivery rider Adi Rizuan Suhaimi echoed similar sentiments, calling for traffic issues at the junction to be addressed.

“We shouldn’t have to wait for elected representatives to conduct a site visit. The relevant authorities conducting road inspections here must already be aware of the traffic problems at Jalan Pegoh,” he said.
