IPOH: A total of 31 undocumented migrants (PATI) were detained in various operations over two days by the Perak State Immigration Department (JIM), which began on Thursday around the Kinta and Perak Tengah areas.

According to the Director of the Perak State Immigration Department, Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, the operations were carried out by the Intelligence and Operations Unit, Enforcement Division of JIM Perak.

He said the raids were conducted based on complaints and monitoring that had been carried out.

“A total of 12 immigration officers were involved, and through this operation, 63 individuals, including Malaysian citizens and foreign nationals, were inspected.

“Of these, 31 foreign nationals were detained on reasonable grounds for committing offenses under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

“The detained foreigners included 23 men, seven women, and one child,” he said on Friday.

He added that all the detained foreigners were taken to the Ipoh Immigration Depot for further investigation and legal action under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which relates to entering and staying in Malaysia without a valid pass, Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act, which concerns staying in Malaysia after the expiry of a valid pass, and an offense under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating the conditions of the issued pass.

JIM Perak hopes the public will report or make complaints to help curb the influx of undocumented migrants.
