IPOH: Don’t be surprised if cash is no longer accepted for purchasing train tickets.

Starting from January 1, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has fully implemented cashless payments for all ticket purchase transactions.

This applies to the Klang Valley, Northern and Southern regions, as well as the East Coast.

In a statement, KTMB Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin, stated that this move is aimed at creating more efficient operations.

“This step also supports the country’s leadership efforts to drive Malaysia’s transformation into a competitive digital economy.

“This includes the transformation towards a cashless society,” he said in the statement.

KTMB has also collaborated with local banks to set up account registration booths at selected stations for those who do not yet have debit cards.

Additionally, frontline staff at stations will assist customers, especially in registering for the KTMB Mobile Application (KITS), making ticket purchases through KITS, or using kiosk machines.
