Skateboarding competition draws strong youth participation and interest in Ipoh

IPOH: The inaugural Skateboard Sports Competition ‘Datuk Haji Mazlan Cup’ successfully attracted 80 participants on Saturday.

The competition, which saw over 200 young people in attendance, was held at the Futsal Field, Taman Perpaduan, here.

According to the Ipoh City Council (MBI), the objective of the event was to discover new young talents and explore the potential for the sport to be developed in the city.

“This program is an initiative by Datuk Mazlan Abd Rahman, who is the WHIP Leader of MBI Council Members.

“In addition to the skateboard competition, other sports contested in this event included the PES Mobile Tournament Esports, which saw 50 participants,” said MBI here today.

Earlier, the Mayor, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, officiated the event and presented prizes to the winners.

The winners of the competition received cash prizes, hampers, and trophies.

Such programs are hoped to be organized again in the future on a larger scale, so that this sport can gain recognition and be further developed in Ipoh.
