TELUK INTAN: The attempt by three men to distribute nearly 2 kilograms of methamphetamine was successfully thwarted after they were arrested in the parking area of a supermarket here last Saturday.
According to the Hilir Perak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri, the suspects are aged between 26 and 38 years.
He said the arrest was made by a team of police from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters (IPD) around 2:20 PM.
“The three suspects are believed to have been involved in the distribution of methamphetamine.
“The police managed to seize two green plastic packages labeled ‘guanyunwang’ suspected to contain methamphetamine weighing 1,918 grams.
“The estimated value of the drugs seized is RM65,212, which was intended to be distributed to approximately 1,918 drug users.
“Intelligence gathering revealed that all suspects admitted to being involved in the drug distribution activities,” he said in a statement here today.
He added that preliminary screening tests showed that the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.
“Criminal record checks revealed that the first suspect had 12 past records, the second suspect had 6, and the third suspect had 4, dating from 2012 to the present.
“The case is being investigated under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction,” he said.
Ahmad Adnan further stated that the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court had granted a seven-day remand for all three suspects from January 7 to 13 for further investigation.
The investigation paper will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for proposed charges.
