MANJUNG: The significance of mangrove forests to both the ecosystem and humans cannot be overstated.
Recognizing this, the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM), in collaboration with the Environmental Friends Association (KUASA) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology (UniKL-MIMET), has developed a mangrove simulation tank.
This unique innovation aims to raise awareness about the importance of mangrove forests as natural barriers against natural disasters such as large waves.
The project is a collaborative effort funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Designed by a team from the Asia Marine Design Center, UniKL-MIMET, the tank also serves as an exhibition tool to educate the public on the crucial role of protecting mangrove ecosystems for environmental stability.
Therefore, this project marks an important step in fostering public awareness of the protection of mangrove ecosystems, which are vital in facing climate change and natural disasters.
This initiative is hoped to inspire all parties to continue striving to protect our natural heritage.
Earlier, the handover ceremony of the mangrove simulation tank was witnessed by the President of MPM, Muhammad Faizal Shah Safian Suri.
Also present was the Dean of UniKL-MIMET, Ts. Dr. Zaimi Zainal Mukhtar, UNDP Project Field Coordinator, Norazean Mohd Nor, and the Deputy Chairman of KUASA, Noor Ismady Ahmad Radzuan.
