Some names in Ipoh need no introduction—Sin Yoon Loong is one of them. For decades, it has been more than just a place for coffee; it’s where generations have started their mornings, lingered over conversations, and found comfort in tradition.
But now, this heritage name is taking on a new role, stepping beyond its familiar Menglembu roots and into a fresh setting at Perak Turf Club.

Familiar, Yet Unexpected
Sin Yoon Loong @ Perak Turf Club carries the DNA of its Menglembu origins—aromatic white coffee, classic kaya toast—while keeping its heritage alive in a fresh setting. Located within the Perak Turf Club grounds, the café is easily accessible with ample parking and a secure, gated environment, making it a convenient stop for a relaxed meal.

The ambiance, shaped by Kai Leck Tan—the creative mind behind Tin Alley and Red Mountain Sin Yoon Loong—blends heritage with thoughtful design. Housed in a beautifully restored colonial building, the café maintains its historical charm while adding contemporary touches.
A striking copper kettle centrepiece honours its coffee legacy, while repurposed horseshoes, once discarded, now serve as a tribute to Perak Turf Club’s rich history. Even the menu is designed to resemble the PTC Race Day Book, a playful nod to its surroundings.

Heritage thrives when it’s carried forward with passion, and that’s exactly what’s happening here. Arh Yang and his sister Rose, representing Sin Yoon Loong’s fourth generation, have joined forces with Nick & Leon from East Ocean’s second generation.

The result? A menu that goes beyond the kopitiam must-haves, offering a variety of dishes that reflect both brands’ deep roots in local food culture. Diners can keep it simple with a classic kopitiam breakfast or opt for East Ocean’s signature flavours—think wok-fried noodles, fresh seafood, and dishes that have long been family favourites.

Once a jockey apprentice dormitory, the building has been thoughtfully repurposed into a space that blends old and new. The outdoor seating offers a breezy, casual setting, while the indoor space, cooled by soft lighting and air-conditioning, is perfect for those who prefer a more refined dining experience.
Private rooms cater to intimate gatherings, and upstairs, the bar area transforms into a lively social space, especially on Friday nights.

Live Music, BYOB,
On Fridays, the upstairs bar takes on a different rhythm. Dato’ John Lim & The Renegades set the mood with live music, while diners unwind with a curated selection of bottled beers. Want something else?
BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) is encouraged, with corkage set at RM50 for wine and RM80 for whiskey, inclusive of glasses, ice, and mixers. It’s a night that blends old-school charm with an easygoing, contemporary feel—much like the space itself.

“We wanted to bring something new while staying true to our roots. This space allows us to continue our legacy in a way that feels natural to where Ipoh is headed,” says Arh Yang, the fourth-generation custodian of Sin Yoon Loong.
