IPOH: The image of Ipoh as a vibrant city should not be tainted by avoidable issues, especially those that seem minor but could have serious consequences.
Neglecting such small matters could undermine the efforts made by various parties to enhance Ipoh’s reputation.
Beyond illegal dumping, poor maintenance of public infrastructure remains a concern that should not be overlooked.
For instance, missing metal covers on traffic lights, which are meant to ensure safety, expose electrical wires that should be properly enclosed.
This issue is evident at several traffic lights along Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, a busy route frequented by both vehicles and pedestrians.
A check by Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic found that some pedestrians waiting to cross the road were standing dangerously close to the exposed wiring.
The biggest concern is the risk to children, who could accidentally come into contact with live wires.
Leaving traffic lights in such a hazardous condition is unacceptable, as there should be a responsible authority ensuring their upkeep.
It would be regrettable if action is only taken after an unfortunate incident occurs, leading to blame being passed around.
