IPOH: Several areas in the northern Peninsular, including Perak, as well as Pahang and Kelantan, will experience hot and dry weather starting this month until May.
This is due to the country entering the final phase of the Northeast Monsoon, which is expected to end by mid-March.
The Director-General of the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, said that during this period, cloud cover and rainfall will decrease.
“The lack of rain for a prolonged period can cause the weather to be hotter and drier than usual.
“This hot and dry weather phenomenon occurs every year from February to May,” he said in a statement.
Dr. Mohd Hisham added that during this time, daily maximum temperatures could exceed 35 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon.
Additionally, heatwaves and localized haze could also occur during this period.
“In such hot and dry conditions, everyone is advised to conserve water, avoid open burning, and limit time spent outdoors.
“MetMalaysia is continuously monitoring the weather conditions across the country, and the public is encouraged to stay informed about weather changes,” he said.
The public can access the latest weather information and warnings through the official website, the myCuaca app, and MetMalaysia’s social media.
