IPOH: The management of the Ipoh City Council’s (MBI) Ramadan Bazaar this year adopts an ‘eco-friendly’ concept with circular economic activities.

This includes encouraging the use of biodegradable food packaging and visitors bringing their own food containers.

Used cooking oil collection from all Ramadan Bazaar traders, which will be converted into ‘bio-fuel’, is being carried out by MBI’s strategic partner, Green Energy Asia Biofuel Resources Sdn. Bhd.

Additionally, the use of cashless payments (E-Wallet) for transactions is encouraged, in collaboration with selected banks.

Another initiative is the MySafeFood@Ramadan2025 program, which distributes safe unsold food to those in need, organized by Pemuda Gema Perak.

This program is supported by 80 youths and students from 6 association groups.

The four Ramadan Bazaar locations involved are in Taman Cempaka, Taman Silibin, Taman Perpaduan, and the Perak Stadium grounds.

Such activities will continue to drive the goal of becoming a low-carbon city and help achieve the vision of making Ipoh a Sustainable Smart City and Perak Sejahtera city by 2030.

This year, MBI has approved 21 Ramadan Bazaar locations with 1,408 stalls.

Earlier, a briefing session was held for 500 licensees and traders in the MBI administrative area.

The briefing was delivered by officers from several departments and agencies, including the Kinta District Health Office, MBI’s Environmental Health Department, and PERKESO Perak.
